About our School
Welcome and thank you for visiting the Osborn School website.
Osborn School is an exceptional school within the reputable Rye City School District. It was established in 1957 as one of three elementary schools in the beautiful community of Rye, New York, which is a small suburban community on the Long Island Sound, approximately 25 miles north of New York City. We pride ourselves on being a neighborhood school, which serves kindergarten through fifth grade. We are a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, nationally recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a model educational organization that demonstrates a strong commitment to educational excellence for all students.
The Osborn School campus sits on 3 acres of land, which is surrounded by playgrounds, playing fields, and gardens, also known as our outdoor classrooms. Our current enrollment is approximately 600 students and we have a faculty of 70 full-time and part-time members. The architecture and décor of Osborn School are traditional, which provides a true child-centered and community feel. We have an auditorium that is used to hold school assemblies, music performances, and community events; a center courtyard with a Japanese garden, fish pond, and outdoor reading area; an exterior courtyard with fruit and vegetable gardens maintained by the children; a large gymnasium for physical and health education; a computer lab with 25 desktop computers, iPads, and other mobile devices; a library with thousands of fiction and nonfiction texts for students, educators and parents; and 31 grade-level classrooms, as well as over 10 additional classrooms for studies in music, art, and Spanish. There is a feeling of enthusiasm, passion, energy, and a sense of community as you enter Osborn School.
The high quality of education at Osborn School has been achieved by a dedicated and caring faculty, staff, and parent organization. During all times of the year, our hallways are filled with student artwork and written pieces that align with the New York State Common Core Learning Standards. In all of our classrooms, you will find educators promoting student inquiry, conceptual learning, discussion, and academic risk-taking in a supportive and nurturing manner.
Osborn School is extremely privileged to have a diverse population. We have numerous families from all around the world, children and adults with various talents, and children with various learning styles. Osborn School is fortunate and grateful for the educational and social experiences these differences provide the school community.
The family/school relationship is a key factor in making Osborn School an outstanding educational institution. Our supportive relationship with our Parent Teacher Organization allows us to work together to provide our children with unique, creative, and motivating programs that take them beyond the textbook.
If you are currently an Osborn family, thank you for your dedication and support of our school. If you are a prospective family, we encourage you to look around our website to learn more about our school and contact us if you have any questions. We would be happy to welcome you into our school community!
